Chess championship winners displaying their meritorious certificates with dignitaries in Jammu.

JAMMU, November 21: Ram Prakash of India Railway won the 1st FIDE Crown Trust and IDPS Checkmate Chess Championship, while Krishan Soni of the Postal Department was second, held here at IDPS Sunjwan School.
The winner received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 as well as a trophy. In this event, three unranked J&K players achieved FIDE ratings.
For the first time in J&K, this type of initiative has been taken by IDPS Checkmate to promote chess in J&K and to provide the highest level platform for aspiring local players.
Atul Kumar Gupta, president of the All J&K Chess Association, along with former J&K SP champion and senior player Sharma presented the award to the winners, while international referee Dharmendra Kumar matched all matches and Bindu Pathania was the chief referee of the event.
The event was organized by IDPS School in collaboration with Crown Trust and Jammu District Chess Association and sponsored by Electricfield.
