Makerere University bets on chess glory

- Silver: Kenyatta University
- Bronze: Maseno University
Uganda’s Makerere University has won gold at the 2022 All Africa Games in chess.
Makerere University was the most outstanding ahead of Kenyatta University which settled for silver and Maseno University (bronze) in BSCC.
This was another milestone for Makerere University who had also triumphed in the same match at the inaugural East African University Sports Federation (FEAUS) Women’s Games hosted by Busitema University in April 2022.
Some of the players in the triumphant team had Margret Musoke Nassiwa, Allen Nabacwa Kyolaba and Glory Mukisa Bbumba among others.
In the Individual Chess Blitz competition, Niza Chilingwe of Mulungushi University won gold.
She was followed by Vanessa Simiyu Nyagwachi of Maseno University and Makerere University player Kyolaba.
Nyagwachi won silver while Kyolaba settled for bronze.
Kenyatta University, Makerere University, American University in Cairo, University of Zambia and Maseno University participated in the chess.
Meanwhile, Uganda also excelled in badminton where the University of Ndejje won two gold medals.
Makerere University Business School (MUBS) finished second in football to pocket the silver behind hosts Kenyatta University after a heartbreaking 2-1 extra-time loss.
The games officially culminated on Friday the 10the June 2022.
Universities from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Guinea, Egypt, South Africa, Mauritius, Ghana and other countries participated.
Focus and attention will now turn to the 2023 World University Games in China.
