First IDPS Checkmate Chess Tournament Begins – Jammu Kashmir Latest News | Tourism

JAMMU, November 18: The first FIDE-ranked chess tournament invited by IDPS Checkmate and Crown Trust started at IDPS Checkmate Sunjwan, here in association with the District Chess Association of Jammu on the European style today.
For the first time in J&K, this type of initiative is taken by IDPS Checkmate to promote chess in UT and to provide a higher level platform for aspiring local players.
Shubham Shukla from Punjab and Ram Parkash from Indian Railways lead after three rounds of the tournament.
KS Jamwal, President JKRA Jammu and IDPS General Managers Suminder Singh and Swarn Singh as well as Principal Randeep Wazir blessed the players for said event.
J&K Chess Association President Atul Kumar Gupta assured players that this type of European-style event will be held regularly at J&K and thanked the IDPS school leadership for their continued support. The event is sponsored by Electricfield.
Bindu Pathania is the chief referee for this event, while international referee Dharmendra Kumar has matched all matches in accordance with FIDE chess laws. School principal Madhu Abrol also graced the event.
