Anand and Humpy launch Checkmate Covid | Chess News


NEW DELHI: Five-time world chess champion Viswanathan Anand and Asian Games gold medalist Koneru Humpy will launch “Checkmate Covid” – an initiative of the Indian Chess Federation (AICF) – on Tuesday to provide medical and financial assistance to people affected by the pandemic.
The AICF wrote in a tweet on Monday: “Introducing Checkmate Covid, an initiative by the AICF to provide financial assistance, medical advice and immunization support to all members of the Indian chess community for fight Covid-19. The AICF will launch the #CheckmateCovid Fund to launch this initiative. ”

Anand and Humpy, who will be joined on Tuesday by the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Arkady Dvorkovich, will play exhibition matches online and the funds raised will go to “Checkmate Covid”.
“In the last month, we have lost 7 to 8 players and officials due to Covid-19. There are over a million FIDE registered players, referees and officials in the country, many of whom need help with doctors, hospitalization and vaccinations. , among others. We will have 10 doctors across the country for 10 hour consultations a day to start the program, ”said AICF Secretary BS Chauhan.
